The Halo Theory is exploring ingredients that do more than respond to the surface of the skin.
The first formulation is being developed around the relationship between environmental stress, emotional stress and visible skin discomfort.
Where we stand
Neurocosmetic research is promising and early. Sample sizes are often small and much of the work is supplier-led. We will publish what the evidence supports and be explicit about what it does not.
Potential ingredient categories
We are reviewing botanical actives studied for their interaction with the skin's sensory signalling — the pathways associated with reactivity, tightness and discomfort. The category is early and the literature is uneven, so shortlisting is being done on the strength of the underlying data rather than the strength of the supplier's claims.
Well-characterised ingredients that support the skin's own barrier lipids and moisture retention. This is the least novel part of the formulation and deliberately so. Skin under pressure benefits from a functioning barrier more than it benefits from a new mechanism.
The central technical question of the product. We are assessing breathable film-forming agents intended to create a light, non-occlusive layer between the skin at the hairline and residue transferring from haircare. It must be weightless, must not pill against hair, and must not itself clog.
Extracts selected for their record in sensitive and reactive skin formulations. Chosen for tolerance and consistency of supply rather than for novelty or for how they read on a label.
Hydration that does not add weight. Every emollient and humectant on the shortlist is being screened against its comedogenic profile, given the product is designed for an area already receiving residue from elsewhere.
A low-concentration scent designed to sit close to the skin. Built to remove the need for a separate pillow spray, which is one more fragranced product landing on the same surface. Allergen profile and concentration will be constrained by the safety assessment.
Final ingredients, claims and performance will be confirmed following formulation and testing.
